Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members,

I am writing to inform you of an isolated incident that occurred last week at the Arthur-Lugibihl Community Center (ALCC), which has since been fully resolved thanks to the swift actions of our staff and local health officials.

During a student-athlete activity at the ALCC, a student was bitten by a bat that was later confirmed to be rabid. Immediate care was provided by our on-site athletic trainer, followed by prompt treatment from medical professionals. The student is doing well and continues to recover with the support of their family and healthcare team.

Out of an abundance of caution, all students were promptly evacuated from the ALCC. The school district worked closely with the Putnam County Health Department, and the ALCC staff brought in a licensed exterminator to address the situation. Once the facility was cleared and deemed safe, student activities at the ALCC resumed.

We are relieved to report that the student-athlete involved, along with all other students and staff, are safe and healthy. The well-being of our students is always our top priority, and we are grateful to our staff, health officials, and community partners for their timely and professional response.
